I wanted to share a little of Lucian Freud's art. I was thinking of him the other day and did a brief google image search for some of his art. These are some of the best ones that came up. I think the old man might be Jackson Pollock but I'm not sure. I really think his portrait work is some the best I've seen. So much character in the faces-like you know them. Anyway, he's one of my favorite artists so I just wanted to share. The 'realism' of his nudes is almost disturbing at times, especially since he was apt to pose them in the most unflattering of ways.
Yesterday, after posting my tribute to Cole Porter, I decided to put together a collected works cd of his music. I got some great songs for the collection-33 tracks in all. His songs have been covered by so many artists that I only had to duplicate two of them. Here's the lineup:

Tons of character- his nude dude reminds me of when I took figure drawing in college. One of the models was an older woman in her 80s who had modeled since the 1930s. Her skin was so loose & saggy, which sounds "ew", but she was really interesting to draw, because you got a real sense of the structure of the human form- seeing the skeleton under that thin skin. So, from an artist's standpoint, I can understand how conventional beauty (& thus predictability)can easily take a backseat to trueness of form- even if the end result is...less than "pretty". I also remember doing a portrait sketch of my grandma once on vacation, & she got mad @ me for "making her look old". She looks quite good for her age, & the drawing was what it was. She didn't appreciate my attempts to be true. So, I often shy away from portraiture- especially of people I know!
Love those portraits. Amazing, really. It's funny...I tend to prefer portraits that are more 'realistic' in style, as well - not the most flattering, but truly full of character. (Although I'd doubt if I'd like to be drawn in such a manner. lol)
What a great line-up for your comp. CD - most excellent!
