My family and I just finished watching the 'Independant Lens' documentary on PBS called 'Knocking' which details the lives of two families of Jehovah's Witnesses as well as the history of the organization itself.
I was so filled with pride and love for Jehovah by watching this little film. It is extremely well done and even though it was constructed and lensed by a non-'Witness', the truth of the information is very well-represented. It moved me to tears on more than one occasion and I especially loved how there were comments from non-Witness scholars and family members interspersed with the families' respective stories. It's such a positive step toward making the true nature of our message and our decisions in life known to the outside world. With all the 'mess' that is being publicized in the papers lately concerning our brothers and their handling of congregation matters, it's nice to see someone take more of an active interest in finding out the truth.
If any of you haven't seen this show yet, I believe you can find information about obtaining a copy of it on the PBS website under 'Independant Lens'. We recorded it on our dvr but we also would like to have a permanant copy for our library.
How priviledged we all should feel to be part of this wonderful work!

We really enjoyed this too. Shane and I were talking about how it's funny to feel so encouraged by somthing that wasn't even made by a JW :) It was very well done, and we deeply appreciate the respect shown to Jehovah's organization.
I didn't see it. But I did read an article that the man who did it wrote. He was raised a witness and he talked about going from door to door as a kid. It was also very sad when he said that the first time he broke his mother's heart was when he decided to go into journalism instead of being baptized and the second time he broke it was when he told her he was gay. That poor mom. I can't imagine. It was very positive about the witnesses too.
We purchased the DVD a while back directly from the producers of the show. Their website is knocking.org. (It has about 3 hours of extra material - well worth watching.
This was such an excellent little documentary! My parents had it on DVR and we watched it with them. And I teared up more than a few times.
I thought it was very "real" and honest.
I think my parents are ordering it off of the website, as well.
We saw it a couple of weeks ago. I especially liked the perspective of the somewhat crazy looking non-witness relative. I was skeptical going into it, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it was made.
I too liked the commentary from the somewhat crazy looking relative! What fun.....
It really was a job well done. Thumbs up. :)
Awwww, I'm so happy you joined us here Sylvie and Tori! Dont be strangers!
Argh! I forgot to DVR it!
But now I have the website to nab it from!
