My husband found a very cool website last night that had some pictures of our itty bitty town, Pleasant Shade, from the air. This photo was taken in the late eighties so there are a few more buildings since then. Our house was, of course, not built yet but it would be to the far right, just out of the shot. I know we have a beautiful view but this one surely takes the cake. Makes me think of the 'old country' overseas.
It also was really interesting to discover that originally, Pleasant Shade was a pretty happening spot. A diagram he found shows that there used to be a furniture/cabinet shop, barber, market, several restaurants, a pool hall, garages of various types, and a dance hall. Now, there is nothing to speak of in the area except a tiny post office and a tiny country store. Even the school has been closed. It's a shame too because wouldnt it be great to have a dancehall close by? Ha.

Wow, that is so pretty.
Sometimes I think I'd like to live in the "boonies" - but then I think of how conveniently I live now and how I'd have to stock up everytime I go shopping just so I don't have to drive out so far so often. I think I'd like to live somewhere that feels remote, but where you can easily drive 10 minutes to get to a Super Target or something. :D
Ahhh... to dream
It is actually not as remote as youd think from the picture. I am within 15 minutes of two super Walmarts. And I'm about 30-45 minutes of 4 cities. It's a much more convenient location than I had originally thought when we started building.
My only problem w/ it now is the cold winters and humidity. Plus, I have bad allergies. I'm more open to considering a move out west than I ever thought I'd be.
Ah then you live in the tyope of spot I want to, LOL.
BEE-U-TEE-FULL!
Oh my! I have never heard that about "The Shade", and that picture is great as well. What is the name of the website? Make sure and share any other intriguing details you come across.
I know. It seems like Tom Falcone would have clued us in at least...lol!
I'm not sure what the name of the site was. I'll ask jew.
